Privacy Policy — XBT - Breaking News
XBT - Breaking News collects, stores and shares no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no third-party tracking SDKs of any kind. One thing is stated plainly rather than buried: the cover images on news cards load directly from the publisher's own servers, so those servers see your IP address for the length of that one request — we never receive it, and you can switch the images off in Settings (section 3).
1. What the app does
The app streams forex, market and crypto headlines, caches them for offline reading, lets you save and share articles, filter by category/symbol/watchlist keywords, and delivers breaking-news notifications from a periodic background check.
2. News content
Headline text is fetched from Financial Modeling Prep through our own Cloudflare
Worker proxy (https://forex-proxy.xbtalgo.workers.dev). The proxy holds
the data-provider API key server-side and forwards nothing about you beyond the standard
technical request (IP address, user agent) that any web server sees transiently in order to
deliver a response. The proxy does not log or profile users.
Cover images are the one exception: they are not proxied — see the next section.
3. Article cover images
A headline may carry an image URL that points at the publisher's own website or content-delivery network. When "Show news images" is on, your device requests that image directly from that server; the image is not routed through our proxy.
During that request the publisher's server sees your IP address and your client's user-agent string, exactly as it would if you opened any web page in a browser. This is an ordinary web request: XBT does not receive, store or forward that information, and we have no access to whatever the publisher chooses to log on its side.
Nothing personal travels with the image request. No name, no account
(there are none), no device or advertising identifier, and no record of what you read is sent
— and the app stores no cookies for these requests. Only
https:// image URLs are loaded; plain-http image URLs are discarded.
You can turn this off: Settings › READER › "Show news images". The default is on. While it is off the request is never made at all — the image is not merely hidden — so no publisher server sees your device. Headlines, alerts, saving, sharing and everything else keep working.
4. Reading full articles
Tapping an article opens the publisher's website in an in-app browser tab (Chrome Custom
Tabs on Android / SFSafariViewController on iOS) or, if you turn "Open articles
in app" off, in your default browser. That page is loaded directly from the publisher and is
governed by that site's privacy policy and your browser's own settings,
including any built-in page translation you choose to use. We do not process, proxy or
translate article bodies.
5. Headline translation runs on your device
When your app language is not English, headlines can be translated by Google ML Kit's on-device translation. The translation happens entirely on your phone — no headline text is sent to any translation service or server. To do this, a language model of roughly 30 MB must be downloaded once from Google's servers; the app asks for your explicit consent before that download and shows the size. That download is a plain file transfer to Google (subject to Google's privacy policy) and contains no information about you or about what you read. Translated headlines are cached locally on your device; the offline news cache always keeps the original English titles.
6. Data stored on your device
- language, theme and reader preferences ("open articles in app", "show news images");
- alert settings, alert categories, watchlist keywords and quiet hours;
- the cached news feed, your saved articles and the translated-headline cache.
All of it lives in local app storage (shared_preferences) and never leaves the
device. Uninstalling the app removes it.
7. Notifications
Breaking-news alerts are generated locally on your device by a periodic background check (roughly every 15 minutes) that fetches headlines through the same proxy. No push-notification service, no server-side messaging and no device tokens are used.
8. Sharing
When you share an article, its title and link are handed to the app you choose through the operating system's share sheet. Nothing is sent anywhere by us.
9. Permissions
- INTERNET — fetch headlines through the proxy, and cover images directly from publishers when that option is on.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — show breaking-news alerts (Android 13+), only if you grant it.
No location, storage, camera, microphone or contacts access is requested and no exact-alarm access is used. The background-work and notification libraries the app is built on add standard technical entries (e.g. WAKE_LOCK, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) that control scheduling behaviour and give no access to your data.
10. Data collected
None. No personal or device data is collected, transmitted to us, or shared by us with third parties. The only contact your device makes with a third party is the cover-image request described in section 3, which carries no personal data and which you can switch off.
11. Children
The app provides financial news, is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone — including children.
12. Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated text will be published at this URL before the change takes effect, and the "Last updated" date will change.
