Privacy Policy — XBT - Breaking News
XBT - Breaking News collects, stores and shares no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no third-party tracking of any kind.
1. What the app does
The app streams forex, market and crypto headlines, caches them for offline reading, lets you save and share articles, filter by category/symbol/watchlist keywords, and delivers breaking-news notifications from a periodic background check.
2. News content
Headlines are fetched from Financial Modeling Prep through our own Cloudflare
Worker proxy (https://forex-proxy.xbtalgo.workers.dev). Your device
talks only to that proxy; the proxy holds the data-provider API key server-side and forwards
nothing about you beyond the standard technical request (IP address, user agent) that any web
server sees transiently in order to deliver a response. The proxy does not log or profile
users.
3. Reading full articles
Tapping an article opens the publisher's website in an in-app browser tab (Chrome Custom
Tabs on Android / SFSafariViewController on iOS) or, if you turn "Open articles
in app" off, in your default browser. That page is loaded directly from the publisher and is
governed by that site's privacy policy and your browser's own settings,
including any built-in page translation you choose to use. We do not process, proxy or
translate article bodies.
4. Headline translation runs on your device
When your app language is not English, headlines can be translated by Google ML Kit's on-device translation. The translation happens entirely on your phone — no headline text is sent to any translation service or server. To do this, a language model of roughly 30 MB must be downloaded once from Google's servers; the app asks for your explicit consent before that download and shows the size. That download is a plain file transfer to Google (subject to Google's privacy policy) and contains no information about you or about what you read. Translated headlines are cached locally on your device; the offline news cache always keeps the original English titles.
5. Data stored on your device
- language, theme and reader preference ("open articles in app");
- alert settings, alert categories, watchlist keywords and quiet hours;
- the cached news feed, your saved articles and the translated-headline cache.
All of it lives in local app storage (shared_preferences) and never leaves the
device. Uninstalling the app removes it.
6. Notifications
Breaking-news alerts are generated locally on your device by a periodic background check (roughly every 15 minutes) that fetches headlines through the same proxy. No push-notification service, no server-side messaging and no device tokens are used.
7. Sharing
When you share an article, its title and link are handed to the app you choose through the operating system's share sheet. Nothing is sent anywhere by us.
8. Permissions
- INTERNET — fetch headlines through the proxy.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — show breaking-news alerts (Android 13+), only if you grant it.
No location, storage, camera, microphone or contacts access is requested and no exact-alarm access is used. The background-work and notification libraries the app is built on add standard technical entries (e.g. WAKE_LOCK, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) that control scheduling behaviour and give no access to your data.
9. Data collected
None. No personal or device data is collected, transmitted to us, or shared with third parties.
10. Children
The app provides financial news, is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone — including children.
11. Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated text will be published at this URL before the change takes effect, and the "Last updated" date will change.
